This is a list of some of the Classic Volkswagen related books that I find of value. Some of the books are general repair and maintenance books that are a good references for restoring and maintaining your VW Bug while others are more specific to a particular topic like the aircooled engine.
I have found that owning several of these books is a good idea because each book is stronger in certain areas, plus the more books you have the better chance that the descriptions and pictures will help you fix your beetle.
While I have a 1966 VW Bug, I own books that cover more than just my year since I have a newer engine, a 12 volt electrical system, and upgraded safety parts such as dual circuit brakes. Having books from several years will allow you to swap parts from bugs of different years with more confidence.

How to Rebuild Your Volkswagen air-Cooled Engine (All models, 1961 and up)
|
|
If you have an aircooled VW and you're planning to rebuild the engine then you need this book. Use it in conjuction with the proper service manual like Haynes or better still..the Bentley Manual. This book makes rebuilding a VW engine much easier. The writing style is easy to understand and not boring at all.
